Webkinz
However, what Webkinz does not tell you until you sign up, is that it is only for a year your kid can play and then you would have to pay a renewal fee to use it once the year is up. To me, it kind of sounds like I am buying the toy twice over, right?
Of course, I could just buy another Webkinz and my son could enjoy another year, plus have another toy. I understand the upkeep it takes for servers, but is it necessary for Webkinz to charge a renewal fee? It is great that the site is safe for kids to use, but I would just rather buy him a challenging computer game for his age that does not require a yearly renewal fee.
What do you think?

I was not aware that you had to pay a renewal fee to use that site after one year. I used to get calls from parents who could not access the site when I worked tech support for the internet provider, but was not aware of that. To me it does sound like you are paying for the same toy over and over again.

Yes, my uncle pointed it out to me when I asked him if my little niece had one. He told me when the one expired, he just registered a different one. That meant she could still play, and he did not have to pay for another year.
It kind of ticks me off thinking about it…right up there with gas gauging.

I agree. As a rule, I don’t pay for memberships for online play sites for my daughter. There are plenty of sites that she loves to play for free. I didn’t even bother entering the codes for the Webkins she has.

Thank you Angie! I hope he does. He just got done with a triple bypass and on top of that, his body went through a huge withdrawal from alcohol. It is not looking good and I think my father is upset too. It is really difficult…but thank you for your kind words.

I usually do not either. There are so many other things that getting a kid addicted early on to the computer. Gaming is already enough…lol.
