I came across the twitter topic recently asking about ways parents could get their children to go green. My immediate response was to make a fun activity. Now, some parents have reward systems at home for their children putting paper, glass, and plastic into the recycle bins, but here are more.

1. Take your kid to the nearest science center and try the hands on activities that involve the environment. Help them understand the concept of going green while playing.

2. If you love to garden, involve your children and teach them how to plant. Let them touch the plants and ask questions.

3. Pick up children’s books from the library on the subject of anything dealing with nature and the environment. Take the time to read with your kids. Children’s books do not take very long to read anyway. And if your child can read… have them read to you.

4. Go on a camp out and talk about nature and how important it is to keep clean.

5. If it is a nice day, do not let your kid waste it by plugging into the internet or their games. Encourage them to go out for a few hours.

6. Do a neighborhood block cleanup and encourage telling your children that not only does it make their neighborhood look nices, but it is important to not throw garbage on the ground.

7. If a place (like the library) that you need to go to is within 1-2 miles, take your child along to walk. Of course, if you need to lug a lot of things home, this would not be a good idea, but if it can be done…do it. It is great exercise, you save gas, and you are teaching your child that you do not always have to use a vehicle to get everywhere, especially if it is close.

What things would you suggest in teaching your children the importance of ‘going green’?

Week…?

Well, it has been forever since I blogged about my exercise routine. I almost feel bad about not doing it, but sometimes I have to just do what I have to do and not worry when I am busy. I have been starting to go tanning. However, in order to go tanning, I have to walk about two miles to the tanning place, and then two miles back home.

In a way, tanning has become a motivational reward for exercising. Right now, I am at a point that I need something to start a habit and tanning is something that I have enjoyed. I know as the days get hotter for summer, I might actually have thoughts of regret, but I have promised myself that if the day is not rainy, and if I go tanning, I will walk.

I think that is a good start, plus it is eco-friendly. My gas guzzling Impala is not worth the 4 mile round trip. It is sad on how much I have relied on it in the past to get around town when as a teen, I practically walked or rode my bicycle everywhere.

Week 6: Incorporating More Exercises

I decided to buy Pilates on DVD. It was not easy to start, but I think it will give me more direction on floor exercises.

Karate is going great, but I am pushing the lessons because some of my former co-workers are going to pay my boyfriend. He and I spent a lot of time this past weekend cleaning out our garage so all of us will be able to have lessons there. It is great because we were doing lessons in the living room. There is enough room, but sometimes both my boyfriend’s son and my son are also learning together, so it gets cramped and we have to move valuable things to preventing it from getting broke.

I am contemplating picking up an older DVD for 3 minute abs as I remember back in high school that I really did ‘feel the burn.’

So far I have lost 10 pounds since I last checked. I try to only do weight progress ever 2 weeks, so there really is not much difference. I am hoping with more focus using Pilates, I might lose inches too.

Between this, my web design clients, and my own network, getting a new theme up just for Rouged has been a slow process. I have an assortment of topics to blog here too as this blog is geared a bit different from Blondish.net. I am in dire need of link exchanges here, especially on related sites.

Week 5: Eating healthier and such

I have started to try to cut out certain foods and moderate my intake. In return, I am replacing it with filling salads and fruits. I really do not want to do any weight loss gimics, but I was curious on the Slim shots. Has anyone tried it?

I have tried Allí, Trimspa, and Hydroxycut, but only got minimal results. With having IBS (irritable bowel syndrom), Allí was not a great choice at all. The others with exercise only did so much. This time around, I am doing it naturally. The only thing I will be taking is a multi-vitamin.

I have been a little hungry, but on a manageable level. I am not looking for immediate results, just to re-tune my body.
